Implementing and managing virtualized multi-vendor data centres

New FlexPod curriculum available from Fast Lane

Hamburg/Berlin, 9 February 2012 – Fast Lane, an authorised training partner of Cisco, NetApp and VMware (www.flane.de), has devised a comprehensive FlexPod curriculum. Those interested can choose from a total of five courses covering the FlexPod data centre, which was developed and pre-designed by Cisco, NetApp and VMware and configured for virtual infrastructures and secure multi-tenancy environments. Among other topics, the courses focus on the essential basics of virtual data centres and the implementation of FlexPod within VMware environments. A further component of the training on offer is the implementation of multi-tenancy solutions.

For the new curriculum, Fast Lane invested in three additional FlexPod labs. The new labs are located in Fast Lane's training centres in Berlin and Frankfurt. Each lab is equipped with 4 NetApp FAS3210 Clusters with the newest Disk Shelves, 8 Cisco UCS Blade Servers and 8 UCS Rack Servers as well as 2 Cisco Nexus 5000 Switches.

The new FlexPod portfolio includes the following courses:

!
!FlexPod for VMware Essentials (FPVE)
!
!FlexPod for VMware Design and Implementation (FPVI)

FlexPod for Account Managers (FPAM)

The FPAM course is specially designed for account managers, systems technicians and pre-sales engineers. Over the course of a single day, participants become acquainted with cloud computing concepts while instructors explain the advantages of a virtual data centre based on the FlexPod infrastructure from Cisco and NetApp.

FlexPod for VMware Essentials (FPVE)

This introductory FlexPod course is particularly suitable for technical solution architects, network administrators and systems technicians. The main focus of the course is on the optimal installation of FlexPod within a VMware environment. Among other things, participants will also take an in-depth look at the Unified Computing System (UCS) from Cisco and the topic of access to the UCS Manager and its use will be covered. Instructors will then go on to discuss NetApp data aggregates, Flex Volumes, NFS exports, and infrastructure vFiler. Content of the FPVE course is a prerequisite for participation in the three advanced FlexPod training courses.

FlexPod for VMware Administration (FPVA)

The FPVA course provides participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to administer and manage a complete FlexPod environment. It is aimed primarily at systems technicians, network administrators and specialist IT support staff.

FlexPod for VMware Design and Implementation (FPVI)

The “Design and Implementation” course builds on the knowledge gained in the basic FPVE course. Key topics include the planning, design and implementation of FlexPod on the basis of data centre requirements. Cisco Validate Design will be used as a reference.

Implementing Enhanced Secure Multi-tenancy Solutions (IESMT)

With the emphasis on secure multi-tenant environments, this course is specifically tailored to the requirements of network and systems technicians, data centre network designers and network administrators, as well as pre- and post-sales engineers. The main focus is on the integration of NetApp MultiStore, Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS), Cisco Nexus 1000v Switches and VMware vSphere.
